Walking to the Royal Palace |
Royal Palace. Central location in the city of Madrid. Official residence of the Spanish royal family. Now used primarily for state functions. Features grand rooms. Each room is a work of art with painted ceilings, impressive furnishings, rich decor. Built on the remains of an ancient Arab fortress. Example of Baroque and neoclassical architecture. At the meet up point we check in and get headsets. Short walk from the gift/souvenir store to the Royal Palace. Learned a ton of information about the palace's history and about each room we saw. This place is huge so we didn't see it all. It was a great tour. Lasted almost 2 hours. Richard and I had our Buffalo Bills gear on so we took pictures outside in front of the palace. I also took tons of pictures while doing the tour. Cost of guided tour 62.00€/$72.73 Taxi back to our hotel Cost

Pool time. Last chance to relax in our pool here in Madrid. Weather is still sunny and hot. Richard still believes he got sick from the pool so he has not been in the pool since after the first day when we arrived. Such a shame as I booked a hotel with a pool specifically for him. But I must admit I've enjoyed my time in the pool here.
Puerta del Sol. Taxi from our hotel here. Cost5.35€/$6.24 This plaza/square is huge. There's a statue of King Charles III on a horse. A statue of a bear pawing a tree which is a symbol of Madrid. There's people jumping up to touch the bear's butt. Good luck?? I am too old and not physically fit enough to do that! A large red and white building with a bell tower. Lots of people here. Richard sits on a bench before the plaza's entrance while I look around. But now it's time to get to dinner. Taxi to St. James. Cost 10.55€/$12.31

St. James-dinner. This place was recommended for its Valencian paella by folks on Trip Advisor. Back in 2018 we stayed in Valencia and had paella that was amazing. I'm hoping to have that same experience here. The place is lovely. There's outside seating too. Drinks-water and a glass of sangria for me. Complimentary appetizers. Bread. We ordered the Valencian style paella. Minimum order is for 2 people. It was nice but not as good as what we had in Valencia. We almost finish it all. Sadly no room for dessert and that's a shame because the dessert menu had some interesting items. But surprise. Complimentary small bites of dessert. Very nice. Great service and good food. All in all a nice experience for our last night in Madrid. Cost 72.50€/$89.25 Taxi back to our hotel. Cost 9.20€/$10.73 It's nice to drive through Madrid at night.
