Hotellerie Saint Yves. I booked us a simple room for 1 night 9/9-9/10/2025. Cost 85.00€/$99.59 I chose this place because it is so close-walking distance-to the cathedral. Prior to arriving I had asked the hotel about how to get there since it's located in a pedestrian zone. The hotel replied that I could get a taxi from the train station to take us right to the hotel when we arrived from Paris. Taxi to the hotel. Cost 10.51/$12.37 When we arrived we saw a sign that stated reception would not be open until 3:00 pm. That's several hours from now. We decided to check out the cathedral. We checked in after our cathedral visit. Our room is basic but it's clean and suitable for one night. I go on my computer to see about the train schedule for tomorrow. It looks like lots of trains have been cancelled due to the protests but there is one that leaves early the morning of 9/10. It's earlier than we wanted to leave but it's our only viable option.

Exterior. Dominated by heavy flying buttresses which allowed the architects to increase the window size. They also support the upper walls and counterbalance the outward thrust of the vaulted ceiling. West end is dominated by 2 contrasting spires-a plain pyramid completed around 1160 and the Flamboyant (late Gothic) spire on top of an older tower. Its facades are adorned with sculpted figures illustrating theological themes and stories. The cathedral has 3 great portals opening into the nave from the west and into the transepts from north and south. Portals are decorated with sculptures-biblical stories and theological ideas. Each of the 3 portals on the west facade focuses on different parts of Christ's role in the world. On the right his earthly Incarnation, on the left his Ascension/existence and in the center his Second Coming starting the End of Time.

Interior. Nave. Stained glass windows-quality and quality. 167 windows including rose windows, round windows, and pointed/lancet windows. High altar. Choir wall. Grand Organ. Labyrinth-the cathedral chairs covers the most part of this. I thought it was just the one area of the floor but that worn area is the center of the labyrinth. Per research I found that the chairs are removed from the nave on Fridays from Lent to All Saints Day except for Good Friday. This is to allow pilgrims to walk slowly around the labyrinth while praying.

After we are done here I check out the area and some of the restaurants nearby for our dinner tonight. We then headed back to the hotel. Reception is now open so we check in. Cost for one night 85.00€/$
Le Serpente. I made a reservation for 7:30 pm. We walked here from our hotel. Large outside seating area but we chose to sit inside. Despite not having a reservation we got seated right away. I ordered hot chocolate and Richard got lemonade. We both ordered cheeseburgers. Mine medium well and Richard's medium. Came with a hefty side of fries. The cheeseburgers really hit the spot and the fries were tasty too. Great friendly and efficient service. I had a second hot chocolate. It was so good. Cost 54.70€/$64.37 Nice walk around the area checking things out.

Chartres en Lumieres/Festival of Lights. Many of the city's historic buildings are also lit up. Spectacular display on the cathedral's facade. I got a seat on a bench of sorts right in front of the cathedral. West Portal. The light show is done with the use of a projector with sound explaining what you see. It started at 9:15 pm. I took tons of pictures and lots of video. It was so well done. Appeared to be highlighting different moments in time. It was so amazing. I really could have watched it all again.

These pictures were taken by Richard. There may be some duplicates of mine but I think he did a good job. West and north portals.

After the light show is finished at the cathedral I wanted to walk around the town to check out the other areas that are lit up. We did walk to a couple but then Richard said he was cold and tired and wanted to return to the hotel. I'm disappointed. Below is the list of other places that are part of the light show.

Back at the hotel I talked to the lady in reception about making arrangements for a taxi to pick us up tomorrow morning. She tried calling but couldn't get through. Said she'd try again and would let us know in the morning where the pick up would be. We set the travel alarm clock so we won't miss the train. Walked 2.41 miles today.
