9/12/2025 Breakfast, Musee Marmottan Monet, Notre Dame, dinner-Les Closeries des Lilas, Place du Trocadero/Eiffel Tower

9/12/2025  Breakfast at the apartment.  I went to Chez Meunier and bought some pastries for us.  Richard has one that I think has cherries in it?  I have a sugar donut/beignet.  Cost?    Uber to Marmottan.  Cost 19.18€/$22.53  We drive by lots of sights like the Eiffel Tower.  I'm lucky in that the car dropped me off right in front of the place!  Richard should have come with me today instead of yesterday!

Musee Marmottan Monet.   World's biggest collection of works by Monet. Admission ticket cost 14.00€/$16.45  I walked through the house to view the rooms and the collection of art.   Started upstairs.  Jules Marmottan bought the property in 1882.  He was an art lover.   When he died he left his only son Paul  the house, his collections of art, and a large fortune.  Paul became an art lover like his father and started collecting more art.  Paul left his home and collection to the Academie des Beaux-Arts in order to preserve it and open it to the public.  It was opened to the public in 1934.  Michel Monet, younger son of Claude Monet and only son remaining after the death of his brother Jean was the sole heir to the house in Giverny and all the works it contained when Claude died in 1926.  He received not only his father's masterpieces/works of art but all the other paintings and drawings by other masters and friends that his father had collected.  France's national museums bought none of the Monet works that Paul put on the market to sell.  So Paul decided against leaving his collection to France.  Instead he made the Musee Marmottan his sole heir and when Paul died in 1966 over a hundred Monet's were added to the Marmottan's collection.    Claude had donated large panels of water lilies to France but refused to let this gift be known during his lifetime.  So the Water Lilies of the Orangerie were not seen by the public until 1927.  Gift shop.  Impressive amount/variety of Monet related items.  I bought several postcards, an eyeglass case, and 2 Monet prints.  Cost 31.80€/  I spent 2 hours here.  Uber to Notre Dame.  Cost 15.95€/$18.74

Translation:  Once upon a time a gentleman named Claude Monet.  He was very sad because of an argument with his wife.  So he said to himself I'm going to buy rose seeds for my garden.  For some time later his roses bloomed and it made him very happy.  He plucks some roses and gives them to his wife and abracadabra they fall in love again!  Did you really believe it?  And no, Claude Monet painted these roses to pay tribute to the flowers in his garden, he loved them very much, called them his life companions and he said that his greatest masterpiece was his garden.

Uber to Notre Dame

Notre Dame.  I returned here because I wanted to look at the outside again.  On our prior visit it was raining when we left the cathedral so I didn't get a chance to see if I could see the spires/towers.  Unfortunately they are still undergoing construction so barrier is up which prevents one from getting up close and really being able to see the progress.  I walked around a bit and then took a taxi back to the apartment.  The taxi driver dropped me off a bit further away so I ended up walking.  Cost 12.20€/$14.33    I stopped at Chez Meunier and bought pasties for our breakfast for tomorrow morning.  Cost?  Uber to the restaurant for our last dinner in Paris.  Cost 20.35€/$23.91

Les Closeries des Lilas.  Hemingway favorite.  Reservation for 7:30 pm.    Very posh place.  Lovely table.  I even got a little chair for my purse!  Drinks.  We got a small bottle of sparkling water.  Richard had a vodka collins and I (huge Hemingway fan) got the Hemingway daiquiri.  Complimentary appetizers were yummy.  Starter.  We wanted oysters so left it up to our server to recommend which to get-6 of the special Utah number 3.  I ordered the pan fried fillet of beef Hemingway style.  I wasn't expecting what happened with my beef.  Mesmerizing  process that included cooking the beef in a pan near our table and then flaming it with bourbon!  Stirring the gravy.  It was incredible and what a way to end our time in Paris!  The meat was so tender and that sauce was beyonds words.  Came with fries.  Richard got the wild Meagre fillet in a crust, fava beans and green peas, lightly spiced strawberry condiment  Cost 190.80€.  Since we're leaving tomorrow to go to the UK I need to use up my euros so I paid 90 euros cash leaving 100.80€/$118.43 on the credit card.  Service was fantastic and the food was remarkably delicious.  Can definitely recommend and would definitely return.

Place du Trocadero et du 11 Novembre.  I've decided I want to come to this place because the view of the Eiffel Tower from here is supposed to be the best.  Uber from the restaurant to here.  Cost 13.54€/$15.91   We arrived around 9:30 pm.  I want to see the lights twinkle which should happen at 10:00 pm.  There's lots of people here plus several vendors selling Eiffel Tower souvenirs and much more.  I managed to get right at the front so I have an awesome view but Richard decided to remain back closer to the street.  He's cold and tired.  I enjoyed the festive nature of this area.  The tower looks great lit but at 10:00 pm I'm able to video the start of the lights twinkling.  This went on for around 5 minutes but I didn't video it all.  I am so happy to end our time in Paris this way.  We take an Uber back to the apartment.  Cost 13.57€/15.94 $  We're back by 10:40 pm.
