9/28/2025 Breakfast, Heathrow Airport, home-Buffalo

9/28/2025  Breakfast.  I had my mini doughnuts/beignets that I got from PAUL last night and coffee.  I have booked an Uber to take us to the airport.  Heathrow.  Our flight departs London at 1:30 pm.  So I want to be at the airport at least 3 hours before or 10:30 am.  One last check of the apartment to make sure we don't leave anything behind.  Our uber arrives and we load our suitcases in the car.  We're off to the airport.  Traffic wasn't that bad.

Mini doughnuts and coffee

Uber to the airport

London Heathrow Airport.  Terminal 5.  We arrived around 9:45 am so we're in good shape.  Richard found a cart for our luggage so we head into the airport.  Check in goes fine.  Our 2 bags that we're checking in are under the weight limit.  Whew!  We just have to pay for the checked bags or 55£/$73.79 each.  Now we can relax.  Plenty of time to shop.  Then we have to check in to the assistance/help area.  I have made arrangements with British Airways to help us with getting to our gate, boarding, etc.  Shopping.  I still have some British money that I want to spend as it's unlikely we'll return to the UK.  Fortnum & Mason.  I wanted to get a tin of their biscuits.  I had gotten this on our last trip back in 2008 and the biscuits were very tasty.  I found the sore and bought my tin of goodies.  Cost 26.95£  I paid 15.00£ cash and put 11.95£/$16.03 on my credit card.  It's a tine with a nice selection of biscuits.  Then I spy Boots and voila!  I find lots of varieties of Cadbury bars.  I bought 4 fruit and nut and 1 caramel.  Cost 7.50£/$10.06   I already have 1 caramel and 1 plain milk chocolate Cadbury bars that Richard got me yesterday when he went to Sainsbury.  World Duty Free store-Butler's was having a promotion.  This is Irish chocolate.  I bought a box of their dark chocolate platinum collection and a box of their caramel & nut collection.  Cost 32.05£/$43.00   At the Special Assistance area we check in and wait.  When our names are called we got to ride in one of those golf cart tae vehicles.  There was a distance we had to go to get to our gate C63.  I'm so glad I arranged for this.  Made things so much better for Richard and for me.  I'm told this type of assistance will carry through on our other flight from Philadelphia to Buffalo too.

Boarding pass

Our flight is BA067 but it's too early for the gate to be listed on the departures board

This is the tin of biscuits I bought

This was right by the Fortnum store-a place to sit for drinks and food.

Our gate is now shown-C63

BA assistance center at the airport had us on a cart with others to navigate to our gate

Rainy day

Flight London to Philadelphia.  First leg of getting home.  We are scheduled to depart London at 1:30 pm and arrive in Philadelphia at 4:25 pm.  Because of the special assistance that I arranged we got to board first.

On the plane first

Happy we made it!

I brought some snacks with me

Drink and snack

First movie I watched

Dinner

So much food-entree of the chicken tikka masala with rice, salad of peas & cheese, roll & butter, crackers & cheese, bottle of water, dessert of apple and blackberry crumble.  I also had a glass of red wine.  The food was really good for airplane food.

Second movie I watched

We got these just before landing

They were ok but nothing extraordinary

Landing in Philadelphia a bit late at 4:52 pm

Philadelphia Airport.  Assistance in the form of wheelchairs was waiting for us when we landed at almost 5:00 pm.  We had to go claim our luggage, go through Customs and Immigration.  Took us to our gate for our next flight on our journey home.   We are on AA5811 scheduled to depart at 7:10 pm  It's now almost 6:00 pm.

On the way to our gate

Our flight is AA5811 with a new gate posted of F37.

Our plane

Buffalo-Niagara Airport.  We have finally arrived-almost home!  It's 8:20 pm when we touched down.  I message our Uber driver Robert that we have arrived.  He replied he's in the waiting area and will wait for my message for pick up.  We have wheelchair assistance to claim our baggage which has all arrived.  But now we will walk the short distance with our luggage to the area for our Uber pick up.  When we get there we send a message over the phone that we are ready for pick up.  Soon our car arrived-it's now 9:03 pm-and we were on our way to Colden-home at last!  Cost $53.97  We are exhausted.  We left our luggage in the downstairs family room.  Richard did stuff to get our hot water back on and I adjusted the thermostat for us to be able to sleep comfortably.  Tomorrow we'll unpack.  Today I walked 1.36 miles even with all the special assistance.

Landing in Buffalo

Our car/driver is here for us to get us home!

P.S.  When I finally unpacked the next day I discovered some bars of soap and no clue as to where I got them other than our time in the UK.  Canterbury, London??????  But here they are and I can't wait to try them.
