8/20/20025. Our luggage is ready. We're checking our 2 medium size suitcases. We have 2 carry ons. I will have my computer in a back pack bag that my husband will carry. I have our passports, travel documents in my anti theft cross body bag. Richard checks his list-timer for light to go on in our LR, well shut down, hot water tank off, etc. We're good to go. Cathy picks us up and drops us off at the Buffalo-Niagara Airport.
We easily check in our bags which are both under the 50# limit. Cost to check in 2 bags $150.00 for the 2 of them. No wonder so many people are now traveling with just carry ons. It's getting expensive to check bags. Used to be free. We get our boarding passes. Now it's time to go through security. Not too bad. We find our gate and wait for boarding to begin.

Our flight is delayed. Instead of departing at 4:08 pm we see a new time of 5:00 pm. We board but sit on the run way. We don't take off until almost 6:00 pm. It appears there may be a ATC/air traffic controller problem in Philly?? I'm getting worried about our connection time. Our flight from PHL to Madrid is scheduled to depart at 8:25 pm. Originally we would have had about a 3 hour connection time.

We finally take off around 6:00 pm |
We arrive at PHL Airport around 7:00 pm. We have to take a shuttle to the terminal and gate. I don't know how we did it but we get to our gate by 7:30 pm. I have enough time to buy a donut $ 2.17 and an iced caramel macchiato/coffee drink $6.00.

We finally board and we can breathe a sigh of relief. I have paid extra for duo seats so Richard and I are at the back of the plane in a row of just the 2 seats by ourselves. Normally the row would have 3 seats but with just the 2 we have a bit more room to be comfortable on this long haul flight. All of a sudden a flight attendant tells me I can't remain in my seat. It's broken. What! You got to be kidding me, right. No, he wants to sit me somewhere else on this plane. My husband's seat is fine so he can remain. I tell the flight attendant that I paid extra for these seats with the purpose of being together. My husband is 83 and I'm 80. We help each other. then the guy in the aisle seat in the row in front of us (he's all alone in his row of 3 seats) tells us he will switch places with us so my husband and I can be together. That's very nice of him. So we take him up on his offer but it's just not as comfy as the duo seats would have been but it's better than the alternative of being separated. I'm very upset at AA about this and will ask for a refund of the extra $$ I paid for those duo seats.

My "broken" duo seat |
In flight entertainment is ok. I watch a couple of movies. The Unbreakable Boy and Wicked. Dinner was so-so. Some kind of chicken and quinoa. We have come to not expect much from plane food.
Richard is cold. Says air is blowing right on him. I told him to take the blanket provided and cover his head! He did and looks so funny but his head is warm now! Neither of us slept on the plane.
