9/11/2025 Musee de l'Orangerie, lunch-Chez Janou

9/11/2025   I have no pictures so I'm assuming we did not have breakfast?  I have tickets for the Orangerie Museum today for 10:00 am.  Uber to the museum.  But he takes us to the Louvre!  It's 9:53 am.  I said this isn't the destination I put in.  He tells us it's just a short walk from here to Orangerie.  I ask him to drive us there but he refuses.  Cost 27.44€ but reduced to 13.72€/$16.00   If you ask me we shouldn't have had to pay anything! (Later today I will file a complaint with Uber about this.)  So we start walking.  This is not good for Richard's health.  I'm so upset.  When we reach where the Uber driver told us to go it's not the Orangerie but the Orsay1  I'm beyond pissed now.  I saw a taxi and asked him to take us to Orangerie.  Cost 9.30€/$10.91  It's 10:08 am now.  He dropped us off on a street at 10:19 am and said he couldn't get any closer.  We started walking in the direction the driver said to go.  We meet 2 girls walking.  They're on their way to Orangerie so we just followed them.  Eventually we see the Orangerie but it's almost 10:30 am and our tickets were for 10:00 am.  Richard is in line while I go to the front and ask about us being late and if we can still get in.  I'm told no problem.  I'm relieved.

Uber was supposed to take us to Musee de l'Orangerie but took us to the Louvre!

Orsay

Orangerie Museum.   Located on the bank of the Seine and in the Tuileries Garden and famous for Monet's 8 large Water Lilies mural.  They were the main focus of his work during the last 30 years of his life.  Many were painted when Monet suffered from cataracts.    Monet did hundreds of paintings of his flower garden at his home in Giverny.  There's also collections of Impressionists and post impressionists works by Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, and Renoir.  Collection of 20th century art by art dealer Paul Guillaume and Dommenica Walter.  There are 2 oval rooms that were designed to display Monet's large scale Water Lilies murals and are arranged to create a continuous landscape.  Skylights to view the paintings in natural light.  The building was originally built in the 19th century under Napolean III to house orange trees of the Tuileries Garden during the cold weather months.  Cost for 2 tickets was 25.00€/$    Gift shop was not open.  After we have visited the 2 rooms where Monet's collection of Water Lilies is located Richard and I both decided not to visit the rest of the museum.  I don't want Richard to over exert himself and my main interest is Monet so I'm satisfied.

Now we have to walk back to the street where we were dropped off.  This is not good.  Richard is really tired.  We pass by the Tuileries Garden area.  While we wait for a taxi I pop into the souvenir store-JAdore Paris-that's right here and buy a Paris hat.  Cost 10.38€/$12.18  We got a taxi to take us back to the apartment.  Cost 17.80€/$20.88  Rest a bit before our lunch reservation.

Chez Janou.  Reservation for 3:00 pm.  I hadn't been able to get a reservation for dinner as nothing available until early October!  So late lunch it is.  Uber to the restaurant.  Cost 8.46€/$9.93  When we arrive there's a lot of people waiting/hoping to get in.  We are taken to our table right away because we have a reservation.  This place is packed.  Cute vibe.  Drinks-orangina for me and lemonade/lemonade for Richard.  Bread basket.  We both ordered the small pots of ratatouille.  It came with bread slices an 2 kinds of dipping spread.  The ratatouille was very good, served cold.  This place has rave reviews for its chocolate mousse so that's what I got for dessert.  A woman came to our table with a large pot and plopped down a huge spoonful of the mousse,  To be honest it didn't look that appealing but when I started to dig in I quickly discovered how smooth, creamy, chocolaty, delicious it was.  Cost 48.00€/$56.32   Uber back to our apartment.  Cost 13.97€/$16.39

Back at the apartment we relax.  Later we have a light dinner/snack of toast and tea.  Also some snacks.  Good enough.

Tomorrow it's Monet again but just for me.  Richard is not open to going after the rough day we had today.   Walked 1.76 miles today but it felt like so much more!
